MY ACHIEVEMENTS

Outdoor Adventures is the kind of place staff can invest time, love, education, and heart. The work we do requires judgment and creative thinking; I have applied knowledge from class and elsewhere to make informed and effective solutions. I've seen so many people who have come through this program and put so much effort into Outdoor Adventures that pieces of them still remain. I have also had the privilege of working with a whole-hearted staff, who are not only my co-workers, but my close friends. I am so proud of the work I have put into this program during my internship, and have growth exponentially. Below are some of my proudest achievements:

VENTURE CAMP LOGISTICS

My first project for my internship allowed me to take the role of being the Logistics Coordinator for the orientation program called Venture Camp. I assisted on logical tasks, but my main objective was centered around food preparation and delivery, as well as transportation access. Venture Camp was held in San Marcos in July and was five consecutive days. I not only bonded with all of the camper participants there, but grew in my confidence to delegate tasks and supervise the kitchen. It was an unforgettable experience and I am so thankful I was able to work with Sarah Schneider before she left as the Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures.

AORE - AEE CONFERENCE

I had the privilege of attending the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) - Association of Experiential Education (AEE) Conference November 2019. My registration was paid for entirely by student development funding and my absence was university-excused. I attended this conference with Jason Kurten, Elsie Derebery, and three of my coworkers. I attended many eye-opening sessions where I noted on ways Texas A&M's outdoor program could improve and ways they could implement different services. I also walked away with an incredible networking experience that allowed me to gain personal contacts with companies in the outdoor industry and future job prospects.

PLANNING SKI TRIP

My last project for my internship allowed me to work with Jason Kurten on bringing back the popular skiing trip during Spring Break. It had been four years since it was offered, and Kurten reached out to me and offered for me to assist in budgeting and scheduling the ski trip offered in Colorado. I'm thankful for this opportunity because I was able to work on a project with less supervision and though it was challenging at times, I'm proud that my work has allowed us to bring back a beloved trip. This also provided me with experience in programming, which is something I want to do as a future career.
